Yanks Set DEFENSE Record

I remember waaaay back in the off-season when either Brian Cashman or Joe Girardi or both indicated that they had high hopes for the 2009 Yankees, especially after investing almost half a billion dollars in the off-season.  He/They also warned that the team’s defense was atrocious and that the Yanks wouldn’t be winning any games because of their defense.

Fast forward to June 1, 2009 and the Yankees actually set a new MLB record for DEFENSE.  Shocking.  The Yanks just completed their 18th straight game without committing an error – a pretty impressive feat when you consider who actually steps foot on the field every day – A-Rod, Johnny Damon, Robinson Cano, Derek Jeter, et al.  For that cast of characters to actually not commit an error for that long is pretty shocking.

I can’t imagine this streak will continue much longer, but as long as the Wins keep coming, that’s ok.  Congrats to the Yankees, baseball’s best defensive team (for now).
