My MLB Awards: NL Cy Young

Don’t want to brag because it was a runaway in both cases, but someone got both Rookies of the Year right… I’m confident I’m going to go 3-for-3 as the next award up is the National League CY Young award and I think this one, too, will be easy.

NL CY Young: Tim Lincecum, SP, Giants. Here’s a guy that finished at or near the top in every significant pitching statistic.  He led everyone with 265 strikeouts and a 10.51 strikeouts per 9 innings.  He won 18 games on a terrible SF Giants squad, second only to Brandon Webb, who could win 20 games while sleeping.  His 2.62 ERA was second to Johan Santana and he pitched over 225 innings.  If you look deeper, Lincecum had a strikeout-to-walk rate of 3.15 and a WHIP under 1.20.  Lincecum was just plain dominant.  If the voters want to consider anyone else, Santana won 16 games with an atrocious Met bullpen and struck out over 200 hitters.  Webb won 22 but had an ERA of 3.30.  Like the Rookies of the Year, expect Lincecum to walk away with the hardware by a mile.

If you want a good article on Lincecum, SI did a great one this summer.
